The Voter Activation Network is the Democratic Party's answer to the Republican's Voter Vault.

The VAN was created in 2004, rising from the technological needs of the left leaning America Coming Together. The VAN allows for microtargeting, it's easy to use, and is on the cutting edge of technological advances (for example, it allows walk lists and more to be downloaded on palm pilot computers. People in the field can then follow the easy to use instructions to walk house to house, and even input information they get from voters...like their campaign preferences...right there on the spot). The VAN has also been associated with democratic success nationwide. It's largely attributed to one of the factor's of Virginia Governor Tim Kaine's 2005 success, and numerous other state parties take advantage of the file.
