Politics in UtahEdit

The Church of Latter Day Saints (a.k.a. the Mormons) remains the dominant force in Utah politics. Hostile to women's rights, the church establishment opposed ratification of the ERA and even excommunicated Mormon women political activists. That will eventually change as Mormons decline as a share of the state's population. By 2030, it is anticipated that non-Mormons will outnumber Mormons.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, in 2009 the Utah State Legislature was far from gender parity at 22.1% female. By comparison the Colorado State Legislature is 39% female.
