River Kawi Effect describes the tendency to abandon agency by losing track of the consequences and implications of one's work. In the 1952 novel by Pierre Boulle, The Bridge on the River Kwai, the character Lt. Col. Nicholson wants to construct the best bridge possible and has forgotten why he is building it and who is to benefit: his Japanese captors.
