The state with the lowest literacy rate in America, at 78.5%, is also the deadliest state for gun violence with 18.3 deaths per 100,000 and the 4th most permissive gun laws. Daily Beast. It is also the state with the highest rates of teen pregnancy in 2010 at 55 per 1,000 teens aged 15 to 19. Poor ole Mississippi is also the state with the county that experienced in the greatest decline in life expectancy for women: Madison County. Poor maybe but Mississippians aren't missing too many meals. In 2011 the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reported that the state had the highest rate of obesity, at 34.4%.

Politics in MississippiEdit

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, in 2009 the Mississippi State Legislature comes in third to last in gender parity among state legislatures, at only 14.4% of female. But at least it isn't the South Carolina State Legislature at 10%. By comparison the Colorado State Legislature is 39% female.

Mississippi is home to the censorship organization One Million Moms.
