Herouxville Quebec is a town of 1,300 residents a frosty 100 miles northeast of Montreal. The town gained unwanted worldwide attention in January 2007 when its municipal council posted pass new on the town's web site cautioning immigrants about bringing with them pathological behaviors that the citizens of Herouxville have heard about on the news: stoning women to death in public etc, and pointing out that women are allowed to drive, vote, dance etc. The new rules also Sikh children from carrying ceremonial daggers to school, even though the Canadian Supreme Court has ruled that they can do so.
The culture warrior behind the new rules is town councillor Andre Drouin, who claims the rules are not racist: "We invite people from all nationalities, all languages, all sexual orientations, whatever, to come live with us, but we want them to know ahead of time how we live."
