Located midway along Florida's Atlantic coast midway, the Fifteenth Congressional District of Florida encompasses all of Indian River County, most of Brevard County south of the city of Cocoa, all of Indian River County, most of Osceola County, and a small slicve of Polk County.
The district is currently represented by one Bill Posey, the butt of jokes by Steven Colbert involving Posey's supposed partially non-human ancestry. Lampooning the wingnut "Birthers," Colbert has demanded a test of Posey's DNA to determine whether he is part human/part alligator chimera. According to Colbert, the rumor is that Posey's grandmother fell in love with an alligator after the great Okeechobee Hurricane in 1928.
Posey won office because former Rep. Dave Weldon announced that he would not be seeking re-election in 2008.
