Eli Zaretsky is a professor of history at the New School for Social Research in New York City, writes about 20th-century cultural history, capitalism and the history of the family. His latest book, Why America Needs a Left: A Historical Argument, was published in 2012.
Eli Zaretsky has taught at the Eugene Lang College: The New School for Social Research since 1999. His interests are in twentieth century cultural history, the theory and history of capitalism (especially its social and cultural dimensions), and the history of the family. His book Secrets of the Soul: A Social and Cultural History of Psychoanalysis, is currently being translated and appearing in the major European languages as well as Chinese. He is the editor of The Polish Peasant in Europe and America; and of Capitalism, the Family and Personal Life, which itself appeared in 14 languages.
