[edit] Politics in Colorado
Colorado was once a conservative Republican stronghold but that stronghold increasingly consists of Evangelical Protestant extremists in the hot pocket of Colorado Springs. The rest of the state is trending liberal and Democratic. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, in 2009 the Colorado State legislature comes the closest to gender parity of any state legislature. Approximately 39% of Colorado state legislators are women. The South Carolina State Legislature comes in dead last at only 10% female.
